Our Story

Our story begins in a small village in Abitibi, with an extraordinary woman.

Dominique’s grandmother was an herbalist, a woman deeply connected to the land and known for her generous heart. Her farm, with its vast open fields, was a true sanctuary of plants and ancestral knowledge.

People from the surrounding villages affectionately called her “the village witch”, and they would travel from afar to seek her guidance. She read cards, interpreted tea leaves, and offered advice and remedies with boundless generosity.

She cared for both people and animals, and local farmers would call on her whenever their livestock needed help.

As a child, Dominique spent her days by her side, hands in the soil and nose buried in herbs. In her gentle and natural way, her grandmother passed on precious knowledge and living traditions, such as purifying the home with a yarrow infusion to clear away negative energies.

It was a simple and beautiful life, guided by the rhythm of the seasons and infused with the wisdom of rural herbal women. When the farm was sold after her grandmother’s passing, Dominique was still a teenager. But she never forgot. Deep in her heart remained the dream of one day bringing back to life that special place where she had grown up.

She nurtured that dream patiently, the way one tends to a precious plant.

Dominique completed her training as a therapeutic herbalist with L’Armoire aux herbes and later with L’Herbothèque, specializing in wild plants and family herbal medicine. Her background in medical laboratory work and biology allowed her to approach natural care with both a scientific and intuitive perspective, a balance that is particularly important to her.

Over the years, she worked on several farms, including an organic farm, a permaculture orchard, and a biodynamic farm, gathering a wealth of experience and knowledge that she lovingly passed on to her children.

In 2018, together with her daughter Rosalie, the adventure of Les Fées Sorcières, now Domaine Botania, was born, an enterprise deeply inspired by her beloved grandmother, dedicated to cultivating, harvesting, and transforming medicinal plants from Quebec.

Our herbal teas are much more than simple infusions, they are stories to share, a heritage to preserve, and a deep respect for our land and environment.

Our project truly took flight thanks to the S’Entreprendre program of the Fondation Lise Watier, whose invaluable guidance helped us turn our passion into something greater.
