Herbalism & benefits

Sweetfern

Although not widely known, sweetfern is recognized for its many traditional uses. It is considered a tonic for the immune system, helps relieve migraines and headaches, supports the reduction of fever, and aids the respiratory tract.

Sweetfern contains eucalyptol, a compound also found in eucalyptus, appreciated for its usefulness during colds and flu.

Pearly everlasting

Rich in gamma-curcumene, white everlasting shares some properties associated with turmeric. It is recognized for its anti-inflammatory effects and may provide support in cases of pulmonary conditions such as asthma or bronchitis.

It is also appreciated for its calming properties.

Blueberry

Blueberry leaves are rich in manganese, a trace element essential for maintaining healthy brain function. They also contain a notable amount of chromium, recognized for its role in regulating blood sugar levels.

Some people even refer to them as “plant-based insulin”, though it is important to note that they in no way replace medical insulin.

The story behind this herbal tea

Chamane du Nord is inspired by my maternal grandmother, who was the herbalist of a small village in Abitibi. This woman, who raised me throughout my childhood, was known at the time as the village witch and cared for both people and animals from the surrounding area.

She used to call me her little Tabatha, a reference to Bewitched, and would often say that I was her apprentice witch. She carried me on her back while gathering the medicinal plants she used.

When someone came to consult her, she would first talk with them about their concerns over a cup of tea. My grandmother would then draw cards and read the tea leaves. Visitors would leave with their remedies, prepared from the plants she gathered on her land.
